Police open case over false school bomb threat sent by teenager in Semyonov

Police in Semyonov in Russia's Nizhny Novgorod region have opened a criminal case over a false school bomb threat. The Interior Ministry said a teenager sent the email under pressure from an unknown person.

An unknown person contacted the minor through a messaging service and threatened to delete gaming and email accounts, the regional Interior Ministry said on October 14.

According to police, the perpetrators created an email address in the teenager's name and instructed him to send a message to the school. It contained a false bomb claim and a demand for 1.5 million rubles under threat of an explosion.

The teenager complied. Police traced the email address used to send the message and went to see the minor.

The case is being investigated under Article 207 of Russia's Criminal Code, covering knowingly false reports of terrorist acts.
