Tamil Nadu promises regular posting process for service postgraduate doctors

Health Minister K.G. Arunraj said on October 10 that doctors completing postgraduate training would be able to join the regular posting process based on seniority.

The Hindu had reported that about 800 service postgraduate doctors received temporary postings across institutions under three health directorates without the usual counselling process. Arunraj said the arrangement was intended to avoid salary and administrative difficulties.

He attributed scheduling delays to the pandemic. Last year, counselling for October graduates took place only in December, complicating payments and other procedures.

The minister said temporary assignments reflected each doctor’s three preferred locations. The government would issue guidance to ensure uninterrupted salaries from the first month of duty.

Under Government Order 131, all temporarily filled posts would be included in the forthcoming counselling. Doctors could select positions according to eligibility and Civil Medical List seniority. Arunraj did not give a date.
