Rezaei calls US response to Hormuz conditions insufficient

Iran's Supreme National Security Council secretary Mohsen Rezaei said on October 11 that the United States had accepted only some of Tehran's seven conditions. He described the American response as insufficient.

Rezaei said Washington had contacted Tehran through Iraq, Pakistan and Qatar. He characterised responses to the remaining conditions as vague and called for clarification of unresolved issues. RIA Novosti and Reuters reported his remarks, citing Iranian media.

Rezaei linked reopening the Strait of Hormuz to acceptance of all the conditions. He also said Iran intended to retain control over the route. The report conveys Tehran's position and does not independently confirm US acceptance of particular demands.

The Strait of Hormuz is an important route for oil, petroleum products and liquefied natural gas supplies. The military conflict has sharply curtailed shipping. The reported statements announce neither a reopening date nor a completed agreement or resumption of vessel traffic.
