Russia and Egypt sign memorandum to expand direct air links

Russian and Egyptian aviation authorities have signed a memorandum allowing designated airlines to operate more direct flights between the countries. Russia’s Transport Ministry announced the agreement on October 14.
Deputy Transport Minister Vladimir Poteshkin headed the Russian delegation. Sameh Fawzy, president of Egypt’s Civil Aviation Authority, led the Egyptian side. The document followed talks between the aviation authorities.
The ministry described Egypt as a popular international destination for Russian passengers. Russian airlines alone carried more than two million passengers between the two countries in 2025, according to its statement.
The agreement expands operating opportunities, but the announcement did not identify additional routes, airlines or launch dates. The ministry expects the arrangements to improve access to flights for citizens of both countries.
