Russian agricultural organisations cut livestock and poultry output in September

Russian agricultural organisations produced 1.13 million tonnes of livestock and poultry for slaughter in September, measured in live weight. Output fell 3.4% from a year earlier, according to Rosstat.

Poultry accounted for 535,800 tonnes and pigs for 489,800 tonnes. Their output fell 5.6% and 2%, respectively, from September last year. Sheep and goat output declined 6.1% to 3,400 tonnes.

Cattle production moved in the opposite direction, rising 1.8% to 95,800 tonnes.

From January through September, agricultural organisations produced 10.19 million tonnes of livestock and poultry, down 0.7% from 10.26 million tonnes a year earlier. Pig output increased 2.7% to 4.4 million tonnes over that period, while poultry output fell 3.6% to 4.89 million tonnes.

The figures cover agricultural organisations and measure animals' weight before slaughter. They do not measure finished meat production.

September milk production rose 1.8% to 1.77 million tonnes. Egg production fell 2.8% to 3.3 billion.
