Russian and North Korean prosecutors renew cooperation agreement

Russia’s Prosecutor General’s Office and North Korea’s Supreme Prosecutors’ Office have signed an updated cooperation agreement following talks between Alexander Gutsan and Kim Chol Won in Moscow.

Russia’s prosecutor general identified international terrorism, transnational organised crime, illicit weapons and drug trafficking, and cybercrime as shared threats. He stressed the importance of cooperation between the agencies, according to the Russian office’s account.

Gutsan also thanked North Korea for its troops’ participation in combat in Russia’s Kursk region. He linked closer bilateral relations to Vladimir Putin and Kim Jong Un and the comprehensive strategic partnership treaty signed in 2024.

In April 2025, Russian Chief of the General Staff Valery Gerasimov told Putin that North Korean troops had carried out combat missions alongside Russian forces in Kursk. Kim Jong Un also decided to send a thousand combat engineers to clear mines in the region.
