Russian energy ministry says it is monitoring AI-98 and AI-100 petrol supplies

Russia's energy ministry said it was continually monitoring domestic availability of AI-98 and AI-100 petrol. It estimated that the high-octane grades account for an average of up to 2% of petrol consumption in the country.

The ministry gave the assessment to RIA Novosti on October 8. It said demand for high-octane petrol varies markedly with the seasons, rising in summer and declining towards winter. NSN also reported the ministry's monitoring of the grades, citing RBC.

The statement followed fuel supply disruptions in Russia during the summer. The government introduced fuel export restrictions and tax incentives intended to encourage imports and increase production within the country.

The 2% estimate concerns the share of AI-98 and AI-100 in overall petrol consumption. It does not measure availability at individual filling stations. The ministry's statement carried by RIA Novosti gave neither a timetable for resolving local disruptions nor stock levels for those grades.
