Russian war correspondent Alexander Kots suggested that Yandex install rapidly assembled metal structures to protect its data centres after a fire at the company’s site in the Ryazan region.
Yandex told Reuters and AFP that a drone incident caused a fire at its data centre in Sasovo overnight on Oct. 8. Part of the infrastructure was damaged, and no one was injured. Operations at the centre were suspended, which could leave some services unavailable. The company did not identify where the drone came from.
Kots posted his comments on Telegram. He said passive protection using metal frames would be more effective than blurring images of the facilities on maps. The correspondent said similar structures are already being installed above various sites in Moscow and the surrounding region.
Kots also wrote that he had checked a list of services users said were down, but they were working for him. Earlier, Senator Dmitry Perminov said Russia always responds to attacks such as the strike on the data centre.
