Army defuses 27 explosives along route near India-Myanmar border

The Indian Army and Assam Rifles found and defused 27 improvised explosive devices along an eight-kilometre stretch in Manipur’s Kamjong district. The operation on the Shangkhalok–Pilong route ran from October 4 to 7.

The devices had been hidden in bushes along a hill road near the remote village of Pilong, close to the international border with Myanmar. Sniffer dogs assisted search teams. The Indian military said bomb-disposal units checked the eight-kilometre route and safely neutralised the explosives they found.

Assam Rifles said the operation helped prevent a threat to security and ensure safe movement for residents of border communities. Authorities have not said who may have planted the devices, and published reports provide no independent account of their origin.

The operation ended less than two weeks after four Tangkhul Naga civilians were killed near Pilong on September 24. Indian media reported that suspected militants carried out the attack. Officials have not linked that killing to the explosives found later.
