September-damaged bulker Cape Dao sinks near Strait of Hormuz

The bulk carrier Cape Dao, damaged near the Strait of Hormuz on September 23, has sunk. The International Maritime Organization’s confirmed incident register listed the vessel as sunk as of October 14.
Cape Dao sailed under the flag of Antigua and Barbuda. Reuters reported on October 14, citing maritime sources, that it was sinking following damage from a projectile strike three weeks earlier. Maritime risk company Vanguard also reported an unsuccessful salvage effort.
The IMO register dates the Cape Dao incident to September 23. In addition to recording the sinking, its entry lists one seafarer fatality and no pollution.
The report about Cape Dao came amid the loss of container ship GFS Pride. These were separate incidents: GFS Pride was struck on October 13. Singapore’s Maritime and Port Authority previously said all 21 crew members were safe.
