Sergey Kravtsov announces school AI course from September 2027

Artificial Intelligence and Information Security is intended for students in grades 5–11. Trial teaching will begin in the second quarter of the current school year.
The education minister outlined the plans on October 9 at Digital Innopolis Days. He said the course would become compulsory for all schools from the following September. Interfax reported that trials would begin in thousands of schools, including institutions in Tatarstan.
The course is intended to introduce children to artificial intelligence’s risks as well as its capabilities. Nationwide implementation is planned for the 2027–2028 academic year.
The ministry previously issued recommendations on school AI use on September 20. They envisage students in grades 5–9 using neural networks to find information, explain difficult concepts and test hypotheses. Older students may also use the tools for project and research work.
The guidance separately addresses data protection. Teachers are advised against uploading personal information about students or parents, grades or school documents to publicly accessible services.
Material produced by neural networks must be checked for accuracy. The announced course thus accompanies rules already published for using AI in educational activities.
