Six cars torched in Melbourne suburbs during fourth consecutive night of arson

Six cars were destroyed in fires outside homes across Melbourne overnight. Police say two Reservoir incidents appear linked, while investigators continue to examine the other scenes.

Two cars were burned in Reservoir in the city’s north, and two each in Springvale and Oakleigh East in the south-east. The fires happened overnight Wednesday into Thursday, marking a fourth consecutive night of residential arson attacks, The Sydney Morning Herald reported.

Emergency services were called to Pallant Avenue in Reservoir at about 1:55 a.m. A second fire was reported roughly 20 minutes later on Boldrewood Parade, about five kilometres away. Police said they believe the two Reservoir incidents are linked.

At about 3:45 a.m., a car was set alight in the driveway of a home on Burrapike Avenue in Springvale. Eight people were inside. The fire also caused minor damage to the house, but no one was injured. Firefighters later attended a car fire on Kuranda Crescent in Oakleigh East. The vehicle was destroyed, the house sustained minor damage and four people inside escaped unharmed.

Police are investigating all four incidents and have asked witnesses and anyone with dashcam or CCTV footage to contact Crime Stoppers Victoria. The source report said all six vehicles were destroyed.
