Smolensk region repairs bridges in Demidov, Sychyovka and Gagarin

Major repairs are continuing on bridges across the Gobza, Vazuza and Gzhat rivers in Russia's Smolensk region, Governor Vasily Anokhin said on October 14.
The Gobza bridge in Demidov is undergoing its first repairs since 1972. Alongside renewing the deck, workers have installed pedestrian railings and strengthened supports. Asphalt has been laid on the carriageway and pedestrian paths.
At the Vazuza bridge on Lunacharskogo Street in Sychyovka, crews are repairing intermediate and abutment supports, replacing spans and installing new beams. The bridge has been in use for around 50 years. Work also includes strengthening embankments and improving drainage, approaches and pavements.
Similar work is under way on the Gzhat bridge on Lenina Street in Gagarin, built 67 years ago. Both projects include planned installation of new pedestrian and vehicle barriers and lighting.
The projects are part of the Infrastructure for Life national programme. In August, the region completed major repairs to the Shumyachka bridge in Shumyachi, its first modernisation since construction in 1979.
