Smolensk region completes improvements at 68 of 70 planned sites

Work has been completed at 68 of the 70 sites in the Smolensk region's 2026 public-space improvement programme, Governor Vasily Anokhin said on October 9.

The annual plan covers all 27 municipalities in the region and includes 42 public spaces and 28 residential courtyards. According to the governor, 41 public spaces and almost all the courtyards have been completed.

A square near the railway station in the Vyazma district has been renovated with pedestrian areas, paths, lighting and landscaping. In Zhukovo, in the Smolensk district, a site near building 25A on Mira Street has been equipped with benches, litter bins and swings.

In Smolensk, the second phase of improvements along the eastern section of the fortress wall, between Isakovskogo and Timiryazeva streets, has been completed. A Viking-ship playground has been installed, with a rope crossing connecting it to a tower shaped like a pier.

The work is part of the federal Comfortable Urban Environment project under the Infrastructure for Life national project. Residents select some sites through a nationwide online vote.
