Telangana minister offers BJP chief documents on alleged voter deletions
Telangana Transport Minister Ponnam Prabhakar has asked state BJP president N. Ramchander Rao to set a meeting with people who say electoral roll revisions cost them their voting rights. He offered to bring supporting documents.
In a statement on October 11, Prabhakar challenged Rao's remarks asking protesters to identify affected voters. He said the party should help correct errors and protect voting rights rather than question the protests.
Prabhakar called for election records to be examined instead of arresting protesters or dismissing their concerns. He asked the Election Commission to disclose how many entries had been deleted, how many concerned ineligible voters and whether eligible citizens had also been removed.
The minister alleged that Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, other disadvantaged groups and minorities had been disproportionately affected, particularly BJP opponents. He claimed nearly 4 million (40 lakh) deletions in the state capital, 7 million (70 lakh) across Telangana and 130 million (13 crore) nationally. The statement provided no supporting data for these figures, which remain his claims.
Prabhakar demanded a transparent and impartial process that protects every eligible voter's rights. He also called for examination of issues raised by former Indian Vice-President M. Venkaiah Naidu in an interview about voter registration and supporting documents. No date for the proposed meeting was given.
