Travel blogger calls Severodvinsk bleak and says its center evokes the Soviet era

Travel blogger Denis Zabelin described Severodvinsk in Arkhangelsk Region as a gray city with little appeal for tourists. He posted his impressions after a visit on his personal “Life in Motion” blog on the Zen platform.

Zabelin said he saw gray skies, roads and buildings in November, with the paint faded on Stalin-era apartment blocks. In his view, the city looks different in summer but is not a tourist destination in either the warm or cold season.

The blogger noted that Severodvinsk is known for building nuclear submarines, but foreign visitors need a permit to enter the city. He said Russian citizens are also barred from entering the main shipyard. He compared the city center to the 1940s Soviet Union and said Severodvinsk has no historic center.

Zabelin added that prisoners built the city in the 1930s. The same blogger previously criticized Norilsk, Yakutsk, Arkhangelsk, Chita, Omsk, Chelyabinsk and Vorkuta.
