Trump attacks Nobel committee over peace prize for Navi Pillay
US President Donald Trump criticised the decision to award the 2026 Nobel Peace Prize to former UN human rights chief Navi Pillay. He spoke at a rally in Syracuse on 9 October, reported by RIA Novosti on 10 October.
The Norwegian Nobel Committee announced in Oslo that Pillay would receive the award for efforts to promote peace and international law. Trump told supporters that he had never heard of the laureate and described her as a mystery person. That was the president's characterisation, rather than an account of her professional standing.
Trump also accused the committee of radical ideological sympathies and said the prize had been discredited. He extended his criticism to Norway, saying the United States would not forget the choice. His remarks came at an event supporting the Republican candidate for governor of New York.
