Two detained over alleged abduction for cash and cars in St Petersburg
Police detained two men suspected of abducting a 33-year-old St Petersburg resident. The complainant said he was held for three days and forced to sign sales agreements for an Audi Q2 and a BMW.
In an account released by police on October 11, the man said he had been forcibly taken to a rented flat on Bolsheokhtinsky Avenue on October 5. He alleged that his captors threatened him and took 1.5 million rubles and an iPhone 18. He estimated the total loss at 12.3 million rubles.
The alleged abductors left in a HONGQI H5. Investigators identified the vehicle's owner and detained him and a suspected accomplice on October 10.
Police preliminarily believe the suspects were trying to recover company funds they believed the complainant had misappropriated while working there. That account does not establish wrongdoing by the complainant. Police are conducting an inquiry into the incident.
