Ufa players sheltered at hotel during overnight drone attack on Sochi

Ufa’s football squad spent several hours in a hotel car park during an overnight drone attack on Sochi, the club said. The team subsequently lost 1-0 to Sochi on October 11.

In its morning statement, Ufa said the situation had stabilised and the players were resting ahead of their match. The club described the hotel car park as the safe location where the squad had stayed for several hours.

The First League’s round 13 fixture was scheduled for 17:00 Moscow time. Championat later reported that the match at Fisht Stadium had finished with a victory for the hosts. The club’s account does not establish that the squad or its hotel was a target of the drones.

Before the fixture, Ufa were ninth with 18 points and Sochi were sixth with 23. Those standings describe the teams’ position before the October 11 match.
