UN official calls for human oversight of AI risks at Moscow forum

Isabel De Sola Criado of the UN Office for Digital and Emerging Technologies urged preparedness for risks from AI acting beyond human control at the Global Digital Forum 2026 in Moscow on October 9.

RIA Novosti reported that the coordination unit head was asked about a scenario resembling The Terminator, in which artificial intelligence turns against humans. She emphasized the need to be prepared for such risks.

De Sola Criado used the image of a red telephone connecting to someone able to stop a system. She explicitly described it as a metaphor. Her remarks do not announce a universal switch capable of shutting down all AI systems.

She characterized technologies acting without human control as a new challenge. The second Global Digital Forum runs from October 8 to 10.
