ICE vehicle strikes man during pursuit near Houston

Authorities in Harris County, Texas, are investigating after an ICE officer's vehicle struck a man during an immigration operation on October 10. The injured man was taken to hospital, the county sheriff's office said.

Sheriff's official Anthony McConnell said officers were called around 7:20 a.m. to Clay Road near Highway 6. Agents had pursued a vehicle carrying two men, who then got out and fled on foot. An agent's vehicle struck the passenger.

ICE identified the injured man as Miguel Parra-Hernandez. The sheriff's office said the 48-year-old appeared to have a broken leg and was in ICE custody at the hospital. The agency described his injuries as apparently not life-threatening.

ICE said Parra-Hernandez ran in front of the agent's vehicle. ABC News reported that surveillance footage it reviewed appeared to show the vehicle moving toward the running man and striking him. Investigators are collecting video from nearby buildings to establish the circumstances of the collision.

The other man, whom ICE had intended to arrest, escaped. The agency identified him as Jose Mendoza-Cervantes.
