Actor Imran Khan detained during Mumbai protest supporting CJP

Mumbai police detained Bollywood actor Imran Khan on October 10 during a demonstration supporting the Cockroach Janata Party’s protest in New Delhi.

The Times of India reported that protesters were taken away in police vans near Nana Chowk in the Gamdevi area, close to Grant Road railway station. NDTV and The Indian Express also reported Khan’s detention during the Mumbai gathering.

Police blocked access to August Kranti Maidan, the intended demonstration site, and deployed additional personnel and vehicles nearby. The Times of India said officers also questioned passersby about their destinations.

Before being detained, Khan told ANI that he had come as a resident concerned about restrictions on movement and the suppression of people’s voices. He said he was not representing an organisation or making demands.

The actor later posted a photograph from inside a police van. Reports of detention do not by themselves establish that he was convicted of an offence.
