Woman killed in wild boar attack in India's Kerala

A woman was killed in a wild boar attack in Edavanna, in the Malappuram district of India's Kerala state, on October 11. Several people were injured.

The victim, P.K. Fathima of East Chathaloor, was heading to dawn prayers. She was taken to hospital after the attack and died there, police told the PTI news agency.

The reports differ on Fathima's age: PTI cited police as identifying her as 60, while The Times of India reported that she was 56.

The morning police account carried by The Hindu and PTI named three injured people: Muhammad Ali, Hameed and V.P. Abdullah. Their injuries were described at that stage as minor.

A later Times of India report put the number of injured at four, adding Ummar Kutty to the list. It described Ali's condition as serious. The newspaper also reported that people who heard Fathima's screams tried to help her and were themselves attacked.

Police said wild boars frequently appeared in the area and residents had previously complained of damage to crops.
