Zheng beats Svitolina to reach Beijing semifinals

Zheng Qinwen defeated Elina Svitolina 6-3, 7-6, winning the tiebreak 8-6, in the China Open quarterfinals in Beijing. The 9 October match lasted one hour and 48 minutes.
The Chinese player, ranked No. 54, beat the world No. 7 in straight sets. She will face Belgium's Elise Mertens in the semifinals after Mertens subsequently defeated Iga Swiatek. WTA confirmed both quarterfinal results.
According to the association, Zheng has won 12 of her last 13 tour matches. Beijing is her first tournament since reaching the US Open quarterfinals as a qualifier.
The China Open is a WTA 1000 event. The women's tournament offers more than $9.4 million in prize money. Svitolina's singles campaign ends in the quarterfinals, while Zheng will continue her bid for a place in the final.
