Indian actor Nana Patekar dies at 75

Indian actor and filmmaker Nana Patekar died at his home in Goa on October 8, aged 75. The Associated Press reported his death, citing the Press Trust of India and a doctor at the hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Patekar’s career in Hindi- and Marathi-language cinema spanned nearly five decades. He made his film debut in Gaman in 1978 and earned acclaim for Parinda, Krantiveer and Salaam Bombay! His notable Hindi films also included Prahaar: The Final Act, Tirangaa and Khamoshi: The Musical.

He received three National Film Awards, several Filmfare Awards, the Maharashtra State Film Award and Filmfare Awards Marathi. In 2013, he was awarded the Padma Shri, one of India’s highest civilian honors.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed condolences, praising Patekar’s intensity and versatility. The actor worked in both mainstream Bollywood films and India’s parallel cinema, known for its realist approach and focus on social issues.
