Alena Kostornaia returns to the ice after shoulder surgery

Figure skater Alena Kostornaia has resumed on-ice training after shoulder surgery and a ten-week break. She announced her return in a social media post on October 14.

Kostornaia said she had received permission to try training again and was happy to be back on the ice. She described having to readjust to exercise, fatigue and muscle soreness while recovering elements after the break.

She underwent shoulder surgery in August. In September, she had described a difficult recovery that would take time.

The 23-year-old won the European singles title in 2020 and the International Skating Union Grand Prix Final in the 2019/20 season. She switched to pairs in 2023 and skates with Georgy Kunitsa, who is also her husband.
