Ann Li eliminates Aryna Sabalenka in Wuhan second round

American Ann Li defeated Aryna Sabalenka in the second round of the WTA 1000 tournament in Wuhan on October 14. Sabalenka won the opening set but lost the next two.

Li won 3–6, 6–4, 7–6, taking the deciding-set tiebreak 7–5. The completed score is confirmed by the Tennis.com match card and sports reports.

Sabalenka entered the tournament directly in the second round as a seeded player. She was ranked second in the WTA standings before the match, while Li was ranked thirty-first. Sabalenka had previously won the Wuhan title three times.

It was Li’s second win at this year’s event. In the first round, she advanced when Colombia’s Camila Osorio retired while trailing 6–1, 3–0. The match against Sabalenka took place on the centre court at the Optics Valley tennis complex.
