Ostapenko beats Kasatkina in Wuhan opening round
Latvia's Jelena Ostapenko defeated Australia's Daria Kasatkina 6-1, 6-1 to reach the second round.
The October 13 match lasted one hour. Ostapenko hit seven aces, made three double faults and converted seven of nine break points. Kasatkina recorded two aces, four double faults and converted two of five break opportunities.
Kasatkina had come through qualifying to reach the main draw but won only one game in each set. Sport-Express, Sport24 and Championat reported the completed match and its final score.
Ostapenko next faces American Jessica Pegula, who received a first-round bye. Wuhan hosts a WTA 1000 tournament on outdoor hard courts, with total prize money of $4,088,211. The result ends Kasatkina's singles campaign in the main draw and sends Ostapenko into a meeting with a seeded opponent.
