Kerala child rights panel examines alleged assault on six-year-old girl

Kerala’s child rights commission has taken up reports that a mother allegedly assaulted her six-year-old daughter, seeking information from police and the district child protection officer, The Hindu reported.
The incident occurred at Udiyankulangara, near Neyyattinkara. Media reports suggested the child had deleted WhatsApp from her mother’s phone. That account of the circumstances remains subject to investigation.
The Kerala State Commission for Protection of Child Rights acted on its own initiative following press coverage. Its requests were sent to the officer in charge of Parassala police station and the district official responsible for child protection.
Parassala police said they had registered a first information report, or FIR. This records a reported offence and initiates procedural action, rather than establishing the mother’s guilt. The child’s personal details are not being disclosed.
