Authorities plan temporary classes for 30 pupils after Shilovo school fire

Authorities in Russia’s Altai Territory are arranging temporary teaching spaces for 30 pupils after a fire at the school in Shilovo, regional education minister Svetlana Govorukhina said on October 12.

Classes are planned in kindergarten and boarding-school premises, local outlet NGS22 reported, citing the minister. Officials are addressing furniture and equipment needs and are also considering transporting pupils to other schools in the district.

Govorukhina said preliminary information placed the start of the fire near the boiler room in the basement of the building’s left wing. This identifies a possible point of origin, while the cause of the fire remains under investigation.

The fire broke out overnight in the village in Kalman District and affected about 900 square metres. RIA Novosti reported that no injuries had been identified in preliminary information.
