Three killed in three-car collision in Kabardino-Balkaria
Three people, including a seven-year-old boy, died in a three-car collision in Kabardino-Balkaria's Chegem district. Three others were hospitalised, traffic police reported on October 12.
According to the preliminary police account, a 48-year-old BMW driver crossed into the opposing lane on the Chegem-2–Bulungu road and collided with a VAZ-2107 and a Lada Priora. Investigators are still establishing why the car crossed the centre line and the circumstances of the crash.
The Priora's 20-year-old driver and two passengers, a 50-year-old woman and a seven-year-old boy, died. Two other passengers in the same car, a 30-year-old woman and a three-year-old child, were taken to hospital, as was the BMW driver.
The VAZ-2107 driver was unharmed. Regional prosecutors said a criminal case had been opened and they were overseeing the investigation. Acting Chegem district prosecutor Tengiz Otarov attended the scene to coordinate law enforcement and emergency services.
