Bastrykin orders review of charges after attack on girl in Krasnoyarsk

Alexander Bastrykin ordered investigators to reclassify a man’s actions as attempted murder after an attack on a nine-year-old girl in Krasnoyarsk, Russia’s Investigative Committee said.
The regional Investigative Committee had previously opened a case involving hooliganism with violence under Article 213 of the Criminal Code. The latest announcement concerns an instruction from the agency’s chairman. It does not say the reclassification has already been completed.
According to investigators, the girl was walking home with her mother along Olkhovaya Street when an intoxicated passer-by began pulling her hood, constricting her neck. A companion intervened and stopped him.
The instruction was addressed to Alexei Yeryomin, head of the agency’s directorate for Krasnoyarsk Territory and the Republic of Khakassia. Bastrykin also requested a report on the investigation’s progress and the circumstances established. The account remains the investigators’ version of events, rather than a court finding of guilt.
