Belagavi police report cases after raids on bars and clubs
Police in India's Belagavi reported violations on October 11 following overnight inspections of bars, clubs and hotels. A later report by The Times of India said 15 cases had been registered against owners and managers.
The Hindu initially reported checks at more than 40 establishments overnight on October 10–11. The Times of India later cited a police release putting the number at nearly 60. Police Commissioner Prakash Nikam led the operation.
Officers checked licences, permitted opening hours and safety requirements. Police accounts said minors were drinking alcohol at some venues. Managers were told to prevent such violations, and operations at several clubs and pubs were stopped.
Police also found excessively loud music systems at roadside restaurants. The equipment was switched off and owners were told not to resume operating it in breach of the rules. The registered cases concern alleged offences including illegal alcohol sales, facilitating drinking outside permitted hours and using sound equipment during prohibited times.
Nikam said establishments would receive no exemptions from licensing conditions or opening-hour restrictions. The registration of cases does not establish guilt on the part of owners or managers. Investigations are continuing.
