Bologna puts preliminary riot damage at €250 thousand as assessment continues

Bologna’s authorities have provisionally estimated damage from Saturday’s unrest at €250 thousand, with the assessment continuing, RIA Novosti reported, citing Corriere di Bologna.

During clashes near the railway station on October 17, rubbish bins were set on fire and shop windows, rental electric bicycles and construction sites were damaged.

Transport operator Tper’s losses exceeded €50 thousand, while utility company Hera’s damage was put at about €35 thousand. Around 25 rental bicycles burned and approximately 100 others were damaged. Corriere di Bologna put the rental operator’s losses at €70 thousand.

City authorities intend to seek compensation and join any criminal proceedings as a civil claimant. Public works councillor Simone Borsari said families would be held responsible for minors as provided by law. The municipality also plans to establish a fund to help affected businesses.
