Bucky Irving Powers Buccaneers to First Win Against Dallas Cowboys

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers beat the Dallas Cowboys 24-16 on the road for their first win of the season. Bucky Irving rushed for 165 yards, while rookie quarterback Jalon Daniels avoided turnovers in his second NFL start.

The game took place on the evening of Oct. 8 local time and ended on Oct. 9 UTC. Tampa Bay improved to 1-4 after opening the season with four losses. Dallas fell to 2-3.

Irving set a career high for rushing yards and scored twice. His first touchdown came on a pass from Daniels in the first half. A 72-yard run at the start of the second half set up Emeka Egbuka's 14-yard touchdown run, which put the visitors ahead.

Daniels completed 19 of 25 passes for 189 yards. The undrafted rookie is filling in for Baker Mayfield, who has a dislocated thumb on his throwing hand. Sky Sports reported that Mayfield is expected to miss at least one more game.

Dallas mistakes helped Tampa Bay extend its advantage. Dak Prescott's first interception was followed by a 64-yard reception by Tez Johnson that set up Irving's second touchdown. A KaVontae Turpin fumble on the ensuing kickoff then led to a Buccaneers field goal and a 24-10 lead.

Prescott led a 99-yard drive in the fourth quarter, finishing it with a 13-yard touchdown pass to George Pickens. His second interception in the final two minutes helped Tampa Bay secure the victory. Prescott finished with 24 completions on 42 attempts for 316 yards.

The Cowboys were also without cornerback Joey Porter Jr, who was a late scratch. The game would have been his second appearance since arriving in a trade from the Pittsburgh Steelers the previous week.
