Buryatia couple's case over alleged theft of nearly 28 million rubles goes to court

Residents of Ulan-Ude face charges of large-scale fraud and laundering criminal proceeds. The regional Interior Ministry announced that the investigation had ended.

The defendants are 37 and 40. Police say the wife worked as a senior wholesale sales manager at an electrical goods company owned by a relative. The couple allegedly registered a sole proprietorship in the husband's name and used accounts they controlled to divert company funds.

Investigators allege the proceeds were laundered by purchasing electrical goods and selling them through a separate retail outlet. Company money also allegedly covered personal expenses, including vehicle maintenance.

The ministry put losses between 2021 and 2024 at more than 27 million 755 thousand rubles. The amount allegedly laundered exceeded 1 million 267 thousand rubles. That is a separate measure within the case, rather than an additional loss amount.

Prosecutors approved the indictments and sent the cases to court. The defendants are subject to restrictions on certain activities. The alleged scheme remains the prosecution's account, and the announcement does not report a verdict.
