CJP leaders allege phones were seized during Delhi detention

Cockroach Janata Party leaders Ashutosh Ranka and Saurav Das said on October 11 that police had seized their phones without providing a seizure memo. They spoke at a press conference after being released from detention in Delhi.

Das alleged that those detained had not been allowed to contact a lawyer. He also expressed fears that their devices could have been hacked or cloned to plant incriminating material. The speakers did not present evidence of such interference at the briefing.

Ranka, Das and movement founder Abhijeet Dipke were detained on October 10 after their flight arrived from Mumbai. They had planned to join a protest demanding Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar's resignation over alleged irregularities in the revision of voter rolls.

Police said the three were released on October 11 after furnishing a surety bond of 50,000 rupees, with a requirement to maintain peace and good behaviour for one year.

Police also reported registering more than 20 cases linked to attempts to hold the October 10 demonstration. The alleged offences included disturbing public order, obstructing government work and assaulting police personnel. Four people were detained in connection with those cases.
