Falkov announces two AI modules for new higher education model

Basic and professional artificial intelligence modules will become part of the mandatory core of programmes under Russia's new higher education model. Science and Higher Education Minister Valery Falkov announced the plans at Digital Innopolis Days on October 9.
The basic module will be common to all students. The second will address AI applications for a particular speciality and future profession. Falkov said it was intended for the second or third year, depending on the educational programme.
The ministry's press service clarified the two-level structure. The general course is intended to provide shared foundations, while the professional module connects technology to a student's field of training. The announcement concerns programmes under the new model and does not mean both modules have already been introduced in all existing courses.
A federal professional development programme for teachers is planned to launch soon to support the inclusion of the modules. The quoted announcement does not provide an exact launch date.
