Hurricanes captain Jordan Staal out for one to two months

Carolina Hurricanes forward and captain Jordan Staal will miss one to two months with a torn calf muscle. Coach Rod Brind'Amour announced the expected recovery period.
Staal played six games at the start of the 2026-27 NHL season without recording a goal or an assist. Carolina will now be without its captain for an extended period.
In the previous regular season, the forward played 75 games and recorded 36 points. He scored 20 goals and contributed 16 assists.
Staal also played 19 playoff games last season, scoring eight goals and providing four assists. The one-to-two-month interval announced by the coach is an estimate of recovery time rather than a fixed date for the player's return to the lineup.
