India’s and Côte d’Ivoire’s foreign-affairs ministers discussed ways to expand bilateral cooperation. The talks took place in Abidjan during Subrahmanyam Jaishankar’s African tour.
India’s External Affairs Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar met Niale Kaba, Côte d’Ivoire’s Minister of State for Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, on Wednesday. Jaishankar said the talks covered trade, investment, infrastructure, agriculture, healthcare and people-to-people ties.
He said cooperation should reflect the priorities of people in Côte d’Ivoire. The two sides also discussed working together in multilateral forums.
Côte d’Ivoire is the second stop on Jaishankar’s three-country tour of Africa. Before arriving, he visited Ghana, where Foreign Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa gave him the country’s instrument of acceptance for the International Big Cat Alliance. The India-led initiative, launched in 2023, aims to conserve seven big-cat species and their habitats.
In Accra, Jaishankar also paid tribute to Ghana’s first prime minister, Kwame Nkrumah. The Indian minister said the memorial and museum highlighted the value of cooperation among countries of the Global South.
