Delhi protesters shift demonstrations to Raj Ghat and detention sites

Youth groups moved demonstrations beyond central Delhi on October 10 and continued protesting after detention, The Hindu reported. Police barriers prevented participants from reaching the planned rally site at Jantar Mantar.

Groups gathered near the Safdarjung flyover, Dilli Haat and Raj Ghat. Police stopped attempts to reach Jantar Mantar and transported detainees by bus to locations on the city's outskirts.

More than 150 people assembled at Raj Ghat, including members of Disha Students' Organisation, Naujawan Bharat Sabha and the Revolutionary Workers' Party of India. Participants alleged excessive force during detentions. Police officers said they also suffered injuries.

Some detainees continued protesting on a bus and later at Rajiv Gandhi Stadium in Bawana, more than 30 kilometres from Jantar Mantar. They sang protest songs and discussed their allegations concerning the Election Commission of India.

Students' Federation of India members held a lecture at the detention site by R. Gopinath, a retired Jamia Millia Islamia professor who was also detained. In Nangloi, upper-house member A. A. Rahim began a hunger strike, demanding action over alleged mistreatment of women protesters and the return of confiscated phones and bags.

The account describes Saturday's events and does not establish the current status of everyone mentioned. Protesters' claims of violence and unlawful confiscation remain allegations, rather than court findings.
