New York mayor demands halt to ICE operations after Marble Hill shooting

New York Mayor Zohran Mamdani called for immigration enforcement operations in the city to stop after an ICE officer wounded a man. The agency said its officers believed their lives were in danger.
The shooting took place on October 8 in Marble Hill, a Manhattan neighbourhood geographically attached to the Bronx. NTV reported that police said the injured man had previously been arrested twice in cases involving robbery and drug dealing.
Mamdani condemned the immigration agents’ actions and demanded that they leave the city. His response added to criticism of raids carried out as Donald Trump’s administration pursues promises to intensify migrant removals.
On October 9, an ICE official gave a different account, saying the man drove towards officers’ vehicles and that they perceived a threat. The agency’s account does not, by itself, establish whether the use of a firearm was justified.
