Peskov says it is too early to discuss compensation after Yandex attacks
The Kremlin spokesman said the government was discussing the consequences of attacks on data centres. He announced no specific mechanism for reimbursing users.
At an October 13 briefing, Dmitry Peskov responded to a question about compensation for possible financial losses suffered by Yandex service customers. He said the company was urgently addressing the consequences of the attacks and that discussion of losses was premature. RBC's correspondent and Interfax independently reported his response.
Attacks between October 8 and 11 affected data centres in Sasovo, Kaluga and near Vladimir. Disruptions hit both Yandex's own services and outside companies using its infrastructure. The company said it was difficult to determine when damaged equipment could be restored.
Yandex arranged with Selectel, K2Cloud and VK Cloud to accelerate placement of Yandex Cloud customers' data and services on alternative platforms. That measure concerns restoring operations. Peskov's statement establishes no entitlement to compensation, payment amount or claims procedure.
