Drone attack damages Yandex data center in Kaluga

Several modules at the facility are out of operation. The company is assessing the damage and warns that some services may be disrupted.

Part of Yandex’s data center infrastructure in Kaluga was damaged in a drone attack, the company’s press service said. Several modules have been completely put out of operation, which may disrupt some services. The extent of the damage is still being assessed. Yandex said there were no injuries and that emergency crews and company specialists were working at the site.

The incident came a day after a fire at the company’s data center in Sasovo, in the Ryazan Region. Yandex said the fire was extinguished, but the facility had to stop operating. The company has not yet confirmed that the equipment in Sasovo can be restored.

The Yandex Cloud status page lists the ru-central1-b availability zone as unavailable, while the other zones remain operational. The company said it is helping customers resume services and working around the clock to restore infrastructure redundancy.

To speed up the relocation and backup of customer resources, Yandex has arranged assistance from cloud providers Selectel, K2Cloud and VK Cloud. The company had earlier warned that the Sasovo incident could affect its services and other major Russian online platforms.
