Pezeshkian thanks Putin for Russia's position on Middle East conflict

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian thanked Vladimir Putin for Russia's position on the Middle East conflict during their October 8 meeting in Turkmenistan. He said Tehran valued opposition to a unilateral approach.

Pezeshkian also discussed talks with the United States, according to RIA Novosti. He said US attacks had taken place during the negotiating process but that Iran had not left the negotiating table. Those remarks set out the Iranian government's position.

He said the participants had exchanged proposals. Once discussion of those proposals was complete, he said, intermediaries could help sum up the results. He gave no date for completing that process and did not announce an agreement.

The Iranian president expressed a wish to end the war as soon as possible while stressing that his country's rights must be respected. He warned that what he described as a unilateral approach by the other side would obstruct a speedy settlement.
