Poland detains more than a hundred people after school attacks

Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk said on October 11 that more than a hundred young people had been detained for threats or possession of dangerous objects. The measures aim to prevent further school attacks.

Tusk gave the update at a meeting with government ministers. He said the detainees' behaviour had raised concern. The detentions were part of preventive measures and do not mean that everyone detained participated in the attacks.

On Saturday, a 21-year-old woman attacked three people near a school in central Warsaw. A 17-year-old girl, a 17-year-old boy and a 24-year-old man suffered knife wounds.

Earlier attacks by teenagers at two Polish schools left one person dead and more than ten injured. Tusk said police checks at schools would continue into the following week.
