Poland detains man after threats against Tusk and defence minister

Polish police detained a man after reports of a possible attack on Prime Minister Donald Tusk and Defence Minister Wladyslaw Kosiniak-Kamysz. Tusk and Interior Minister Marcin Kierwinski announced the detention on October 11, 2026.

Earlier in the day, Interior Ministry spokeswoman Karolina Galecka said police had received information about a threat to the two officials. Kierwinski and intelligence services coordinator Tomasz Siemoniak ordered action. A security meeting was scheduled for 11:00 a.m. at the Internal Security Agency's Counter-Terrorism Centre.

Tusk thanked police for acting swiftly. AFP quoted Galecka as saying searches at the detained man's home were continuing and police would verify information about him.

Kierwinski told TVP Info that the man, who was in his 60s, had been detained in Lower Silesia. Authorities were examining his contacts and online activity. The detention does not establish the full circumstances of the suspected plot.
