Two Indian states investigate Himashri Boro's death near railway tracks

Police from Andhra Pradesh and Assam are jointly investigating the death of 21-year-old Himashri Boro, whose body was found beside railway tracks in Srikakulam district. The cause of death remains undetermined.
Local and railway police returned to the site with Assam officers on October 10 to search for evidence and speak to residents, The Hindu reported. Seven special teams are involved, alongside forensic specialists, dog squads and drone teams.
Boro had been travelling on the Vivek Express towards her home city of Guwahati. Preliminary accounts say she called a friend to report men behaving inappropriately. After her contacts alerted the railway helpline, Railway Protection Force officers searched the train and found her luggage, but not the passenger.
Her family alleges she was murdered and has called for a swift investigation. That allegation is not an established police finding. Railway spokesperson Balaji told The Hindu that investigators were still determining the circumstances of her death.
In a separate report by Hub News, Srikakulam police superintendent K.V. Maheswar Reddy said the post-mortem examination found no evidence of physical or sexual violence. He said investigators were examining whether the death was accidental or intentional and had so far found no evidence of a conspiracy.
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and MP Gaurav Gogoi have asked railway authorities and Andhra Pradesh's government to ensure a high-level investigation.
