RIA reports Rivet Joint flight near Kaliningrad region

A British Boeing RC-135W Rivet Joint flew through Lithuanian airspace near Russia's Kaliningrad region on October 9, RIA Novosti reported, citing flight data examined by the agency.

RIA said the aircraft departed RAF Waddington at about 12:42 Moscow time and crossed the Netherlands, Germany and Poland before entering Lithuania. It turned there and was heading back by 16:00 Moscow time. This describes the daytime route rather than its current position.

The agency also described a separate flight on Wednesday over the North and Baltic seas. Neither account reported entry into Russian airspace.

The Royal Air Force identifies the RC-135W as an electronic intelligence aircraft based at Waddington. That description does not establish the specific purpose of Friday's flight.
