Russia and Thailand discuss energy cooperation and trade barriers

Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexei Overchuk and Thai Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul discussed energy cooperation and barriers to bilateral trade in Bangkok on October 14. Overchuk outlined the talks to journalists afterwards.

He said the discussion covered both tariff and non-tariff barriers. The Russian delegation also presented initiatives concerning Eurasian integration and opportunities to develop links with the Eurasian Economic Union market.

Energy issues formed another part of the agenda against the background of events in the Middle East, Overchuk said. His account described the subjects discussed and did not announce a signed agreement or the removal of specific trade restrictions.

The meeting took place during the Russian delegation’s visit for the annual meetings of the International Monetary Fund and World Bank. Prime, reporting from Bangkok, also confirmed the meeting and the discussion of Eurasian integration.
